An unexpected

Last night, I went to Porter Square Books to pick up a copy of "So You Want to Talk About Race," which I had ordered last week when I was there to read from and sign copies of my book.
I discovered that Denise Dubois was to read from her book "Self-Made Woman" at 7 PM, so I stuck around. Not only was it worth it, but after it was over, I mentioned that I had just presented my book a week ago, and two people bought copies of my book from the store on the spot!

Afterwards, Denise and a number of others went over to Christopher's for dinner and I joined them. A very nice night indeed, and completely unplanned!

How rude to crash someone else's reading and try to sell your own books! Did you buy her book, I hope? Wow, super rude.

Julia, please don't judge me without knowing more of the story. I had no intention of trying to sell my book when I decided to stay to hear her presentation. After it was over, a few others at one side of the room struck up a conversation with me about the whole topic of gender. I mentioned that I had written on the topic and one thing lead to another. They asked *me* where to get my book, not the other way around. I just told them that the store had it in stock. Two people bought one and asked me to sign it, which I did. And, yes, I did buy a copy of her book after that. No one thought I was rude, as far as I can tell. We all had a great conversation at dinner, and many hugs were shared.
