See me and my book this Saturday!

This Saturday, June 24, 2017, I'll have a booth at Arlington Alive, the arts fair in Arlington Center, Massachusetts! I'll be there from 11 AM to 4 PM, the entire duration of the fair. I'll have a draft copy of my book available to see and postcard flyers to take with you if you want. During that time, I'll be reading passages from the book around 12:30 and 2:30 PM. So come by and see me, see the book, chat, hang out, see the other booths and activities that will be there.

Now for some important details:

The event is sponsored by Arlington Center for the Arts. The event is free and open to the public.
You do not need to RSVP and you do not need a ticket to attend. It's outdoors and the weather is predicted to be sunny and nice, although rain is predicted for the night before, so the streets could be wet and there may be lingering clouds in the morning.

If you need to set your GPS to a specific address, go to 327 Broadway, Arlington MA 02474 (the Starbucks on the corner of Broadway, Mass. Ave. and Medford Street). If you are driving, I recommend that you proceed down Medford Street about 100 feet and turn left to enter the connector road (technically, Park Terrace) to the Russell Common parking lot. Or just park on a street nearby. There are parking meters in the area, so I'm not sure how long you can park. The Russell Common parking area has a parking permit machine, and it's only 50 cents per hour, so that's cheaper than the meters. I'm not sure if there will be a waiver for the day in that lot, to accommodate fair goers. The MBTA 77 and 350 busses pass through that area, so that's an option.

Diligent Editing goin' on!

It's a mad dash to the finish line!  Editing, then Beta Readers, then final edit, then upload to distribution.  On one simple sentence, I've just described three months of work!
I'm still learning to collaborate and delegate, after a life of trying to do everything myself!  So I have an assistant here to help me today.  We're making great progress, so I hope to stay on schedule.  The book should be out on September 14th, right on time!

What I learned from Pride, now that I have thought it over:

1. I could look at my experience as a 'glass half empty' or a 'glass half full.' That is, I could focus on what went wrong, or on what went right. The result: we distributed 2000 postcards! Glass half full = optimism. That's me.
2. No matter how well you plan for participation in a public event, you can't really control everything. So much can happen. So I did my best to prepare, things happened, and I adapted as best I could. No blame here.
3. Standing back from it all, I now realize that my main mission is to finish editing the book, get feedback from my beta readers, and have the final version uploaded before the deadline. Publicity is important, yes, but having the book be really, really good is the top priority.
4. There is a lot of love in my life! Sometimes, sitting alone at home in my office, working on my computer, I find myself with feelings of isolation. Little by little, I'm remembering to remember that I love plenty of people and plenty of people love me!

Happy Pride, everybody!

Warning on ordering my book!

I just discovered that there are vendors on Amazon that state that my book is "In Stock" and promise to ship it to you by mid June. This is not true! No one is authorized to ship my book until September 14th.

Please do not order my book from anyone promising to deliver it before September 14, 2017. Amazon and legitimate book stores should show the correct on-sale date.
You're welcome to pre-order it, for delivery in September.  In fact I encourage that!

Here's why:  I had to start publicity well in advance of the "on sale date," as they call it in the book business. In order to do that, I had to upload the cover and the "book block" (the book's text, all typeset into pages) to IngramSpark, the company who will be printing and distributing it. But since the book block still needs editing (typos fixed, other things adjusted, some sentences reworded), I had to upload a preliminary version at this time.

When IngramSpark sent an image of the cover to Amazon, apparently that was picked up by other vendors who appear on the Amazon web page (the one that shows my book), promising to deliver the book right away! From what I know so far, these other vendors do not have access to the actual content of the book, even the preliminary version I uploaded.

I have no idea if they will charge your credit card and then not deliver the book for months after all. I am still looking into this with Amazon and I will post updates here as I learn of them.

Meanwhile, I'm proceeding to march in the Boston Pride Parade on Saturday, June 10th (tomorrow as I write this) and will be distributing flyers to promote my book there.
