My Big Book Release Party went very well!

After many hours of publicity work, the day finally arrived.  I'm happy to say we had a good crowd (25 to 30 people), sold a good number of books, and I felt good about my presentation.  When it was over, many people said they enjoyed it and thought I spoke well.  I'm very pleased!  Now to prepare for upcoming events in December and January!

Oh, by the way, I sold one T-Shirt there as well.  The slogan "I don't blame you." is elucidated in my book.
Wear one if you dare!

I also worked hard to provide healthy finger food choices for guests.  I managed to avoid cane sugar and instead have nuts fruit, vegetables, cheeses, and sugar free energy bars for those who had no chance to grab dinner before arriving.

Thanks to Ethan Grant, my son, for taking these photographs.

Boston Book Festival and the IPNE Book Awards ... were both great!

I had a great time at the Boston Book Festival on October 28th.  That's Meia Geddes and I at the book signing table, where we faced the crowd of passers by for about an hour.

I actually sold and signed 8 books, more than I expected.  Of course, people took many of my post cards and flyers.  Later, I got to go out and talk to a number of people in other booths, around the Festival.

The IPNE Annual Book awards on Saturday, the 4th of November were the culmination of hours of work by many volunteers over the Summer.  I was the one who opened boxes and inventoried books sent in by the various authors who had signed up.  I did not enter my book in the contest as it was not complete by the deadline.  So, there's next year!  In the photo, below, the audience is just getting settled as we are about to start.

Before the awards were announced and handed out, we had a panel discussion on various aspects of how independent publishing works today.  We answered questions from the audience after some initial remarks.  Left to right at the table are Eddie Vincent, IPNE Co-president; Susannah Noel, editor at Noel Editorial; Mellissa Sherwin, co-founder of Writers Business School; Glenn C. Koenig (me!), author and owner of Message Rain publishing; and Charlotte Pierce, recent IPNE president and founder of Pierce Press.

Special thanks to the staff of the Robbins Library, and especially Library Director Andrea Nicolay for her help in hosting this event!

One Small Step

I just got approval to appear at the St. John's Church Crafts Fair on Dec. 2nd (see my Appearances & Events page). OK, it's not national exposure, but every little bit helps, I say. I get to chat with people attending the fair, sell a few books and T-Shirts (maybe), and relax a little. It costs very little, so it's mostly an investment in time and community ties. I'm sharing a table with Charlotte Pierce, a member of the church and a good friend of mine. She is past president of IPNE.

Boston Book Festival was great!

I had a great time at the Festival yesterday!  The weather was great (a bit chilly & windy, but very sunny and nice) and the crowd was wonderful.  I talked with readers, sold a few copies of my book, and helped explain how IPNE helps authors and independent publishers around New England.
Although I usually take dozens of photos, for some reason (I was too busy!) I didn't take any!  I'm appealing to others to send me some that they took (where I was in the picture) so I can post them here.

Getting Clearer

I just created a new brochure for the Boston Book Festival.  I copied some text I wrote for it and added it to the "About this Book" page for my book, a man wearing a dress.

I put a whole lot into this book and I realized that I hadn't really described it very well so far.  So I decided to do a better job.

I've gotten rave reviews from a few people who have read it, so far, so my main effort now is to get the word out.  There are some things I can't do, such as add more reviews on Amazon.  I'm depending on you to do that.  Please. I know this book can be a big success.

I'm getting some press!

A new online magazine, Boston Voyager, has done a story on me. You can see it here. I think it came out quite well! They don't have a section for Arlington or Metro West, so I'm listed under "Cambridge," but that's ok. I'll take it!

My Book Release Party is now Scheduled!

I'm hosting a big book reading and signing.  And you're invited!
Date:  Tuesday, November 14, 2017
Time:  7:00 PM to 9:00 PM
Address:  Robbins Memorial Library, 700 Mass. Ave., Arlington, MA 02476.
Location:  In the Community Room, downstairs.
Books will be available for sale and refreshments will be served.

Note!  Parking in the vicinity of the Library may be difficult because of a big choral rehearsal at the U.U. Church next door.  So, ...
Use public transportation if possible (the 67, 77, and 79 busses stop right at the library) or catch an Uber or Lyft from Alewife Station, which is only about 2 miles away. You can also bicycle. The Minuteman Trail crosses Mass. Ave right in the vicinity. If you drive, you can park further down Pleasant St. toward Belmont (route 60) or further up Mass. Ave. (higher numbered addresses), or in the "railroad" parking lot behind Not Your Average Joe's,
or in the Russell Common parking lot located off Mystic & Chestnut Street, behind the Cutter House (Dallin Museum building wth the historic RR tracks in front of it), diagonally across Arlington Center from the Church & Library,
