One day, I saw this sign in my town.  It seemed rather harsh and authoritarian.

I thought, why not ask for what you want, instead of just saying "No!" in huge letters?

In other words, why say "No" when you can say "Yes" instead?

Also, I noticed that a lot of cyclists were ignoring it.

Shortly after that, I happened to be in Harvard Yard and I saw this sign.  Wow, what a difference!  The sign says what they would like and they ask nicely.

I didn't have the time, money, nor desire to rip down the big red signs and try to replace them.

But I realized that I could perhaps help a little.  So I created my "Please" stickers.  I put one on each red sign.

OK, it probably didn't make a huge difference (some cyclists still ride on the sidewalks), but my goal was to encourage people to think in a new direction.

Then, I decided to make my Please stickers available to anyone.  So if you see a sign that needs a slightly nicer approach, you can make a similar statement.

Now, of course, I'm not inviting anyone to break the law or put stickers where they're likely to cause trouble. This is not about upsetting people.  The whole idea is to help lift the 'spiritual temperature' of life today, not make things worse.  The big red signs don't have anything on them that say who put them up or by what authority, so my improvement seemed to be fair game.

So, please always use your best judgement.
