DO work really hard for Bernie Sanders, as he has the best chance to win.
DON’T be afraid of Donald Trump or worry about who gets the Republican nomination.
DO show your support for Bernie publicly
DON’T go to a Donald Trump rally if you don’t support him. Just don’t go.
Why do I say this? I say it because we are not about divisiveness and hating those who hate. We must be about love. We must be steadfastly about love and peaceful change, not disruption and hate.
This campaign is not about issues, it’s about values. If Donald Trump’s rallies are about divisiveness, then we must be about inclusiveness. If they are about noise and empty rhetoric, then we must be about quiet reasoning and peaceful determination.
Look, if you really want to show your opposition to Donald Trump, don’t go to his rallies or try to block other people from going (or having his rallies cancelled) because Donald Trump himself is NOT the problem. The problem, if anything, is why people support him. Believe me, it’s complicated. There are many factors. Government is failing to be effective recently. That’s one reason. But regardless of the reason, what the people at those rallies are contributing to is divisiveness and mistrust and open hostility. This cannot be resisted by more hostility because showing more hostility back just supports more hostility everywhere for everyone. This is not a fight. I repeat, this is NOT a fight. Don’t take the bait. If you do, you help the cause of hostility rather than work against it.
If you really want to do something, do this. Get a large crowd to assemble somewhere nearby. Not just a few people. You don’t even need to make signs or chant any slogans. Let all the people who want to attend the Trump rally attend it if they want. Don’t yell at them or block them or try to argue with them. Instead, stage a ‘hug in’ just down the street from there, if you can. Get people of color, white people, hispanic people, gay and trans people, men, women, and intersex people, and have a massive slow motion hug-in. Each person hug 10 or 20 others in slow motion. Then, at some point, turn and face the sky, as if you’re praying. No, you don’t have to believe in God or any religion. You don’t have to say any prayer. You can be an atheist or whatever you want. Just everyone turn and look up. Perhaps get someone to go to the top of a building overhead and get a photo of everyone looking up, silently, so that everyone is looking right into the lens. Then spread the image around through social media with the message: We’re looking upward and forward to a positive future where we spread love and inclusion and understanding for everyone and all of nature (because we cannot be divisive between humans and the natural world, either).
Because that is the real anti-Trump message, more powerful and more effective than any noisy disruption can ever be.
Please do this. Please share and spread this message. Please.
