The Community Organization Guide
I am embarking on a project to create a list of all non-profit and other community organizations here in Maynard, Massachusetts. (For details see the "Announcements" section of the Blogs page, here on this site.) I am in the process of collecting names, web site addresses, and contact information for each. I intend to get permission from each organization as to what they want listed for contact information. Then I will publish my list in some form.
As I'm funding this myself at the moment, and creating an on-line searchable database or distributing a printed list on paper to every address both require a substantial investment (at least for me, as an individual), perhaps starting out with something simpler is the way to go. At least until I can get an idea from others what form would be most useful (and least subject to hacking?).
I will likely start by posting a downloadable PDF file here (on this web page) and print a few copies on paper to start with - to place at the library, town hall, and so forth. I'm open to suggestions as to how to prevent "bots" from harvesting e-mail addresses and phone numbers for nefarious purposes, once I publish something.
If you represent a community group, a local non-profit organization of any kind and would like to be included, please send me a message through the "Contact Us" page here on this web site. I will reply with a form to fill out or a phone call, if you provide a contact number.
Thank you.
