11 Nov. 2025,
and beyond!

I have started what I call a "Food Security Network."  I was inspired after the interruption in Supplementary Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, aka food stamps) funding that began November 1st.  The idea is for people to meet with each other, and buy breakfast (or another meal) for those in need.
I've created two signs that anyone can print out, place on a restaurant table, and invite others to show up to participate.  There are the two PDF documents, below, one with the photo, the other with just text.

18 October 2025
I created a handbill to take to the "No Kings" demonstration in Memorial Park in Maynard, Massachusetts.  I wrote it because I'm interested in finding ways to resolve our differences, rather than exacerbate them. After giving away the ones I printed, I told people that I would provide a PDF here, so that those who were not there could read what I wrote and perhaps discuss some of the points I raised and related issues.
So, here below is that PDF.  It is two pages, but meant to be printed on two sides of a single sheet of paper, then cut in half to create two handbills.

I was planning to add another session, entitled "Twister in the age of Me Too" but my plans were not completed in time to make it onto the schedule.  However, I will have a copy of the game of Twister® Ultimate (from Hasbro Gaming) with me, along with some notes, in case anyone wishes to find a space to gather a few people to discuss the concept and perhaps actually play it.
I came up with this idea while planning to hold a "Free Hugs" event recently, based on my experiences with offering free hugs in Harvard Square, Cambridge, with a group of people, many years ago.
Then, I realized that the culture of touch, boundaries, and consent had evolved since then.  I drafted a document with proposed guidelines for doing Free Hugs these days.  That document is available as a PDF, here, below.

FREE HUGS at Maynardfest: I will be offering Free Hugs at various locations during Maynardfest in downtown Maynard, Massachusetts, from 9:00 AM UNTIL 3:30 PM.  For details, see the Discover Maynard page for the event:
https://discovermaynard.com/event/32nd-annual-maynardfest/
I will be holding a sign saying "FREE HUGS" and handing out a sheet with guidelines for offering hugs as well as notes on how to offer Free Hugs anywhere.  To download a PDF version of the my handout, click on "Download File", below.
I hope to have others with me, so if you want to join in, please use the Contact Us page here on this web site.

NOTE:  I did not end up doing Free Hugs at this year's Maynardfest.  The only other person who signed up was not well enough to join me at the last minute.  And two other booths with which I'm associated needed more people to staff their tables.  I was still recovering from some kind of upper respiratory thing and although I didn't expect that I was still contagious, I didn't want to risk passing it around.

6 Sept 2025
My 75th Birthday Party is happening!
Please join me on Saturday, September 6, 2025 at 7:00 PM, at the Maynard Elk's Club (34 Powder Mill Road, Maynard, MA 01754) for a birthday bash, dance, and “Charity Begins In Town” event for my 75th birthday this year!  I'm not asking for any gifts, but instead I'm inviting guests to donate to one of the local charities we will have on hand.

We will have a self-serve food buffet and birthday cake for dessert. We will also have an open bar for the first hour, then a cash bar after. Non-alcoholic beverages & juices are provided free.  We are opting for ceramic plates and metal utensils (as opposed to paper plates) to cut down on waste.

We will have music provided by the Arreaux Strings Quartet ( http://www.arreauxstrings.com ).

At 7:30 PM, a professional caller, Sue Rosen ( https://www.suerosencaller.com ), will teach figure dancing (similar to square dance/contra dance) to traditional tunes. Children are very much invited to join in and learn this fun style of dance.

Picture
At 8:45 PM, there will be a break, followed by free form and couples dancing until the party ends at 11 PM. During this time, the quartet can play modern and classic pop & rock tunes on request. See: http://www.arreauxstrings.com/string-quartet-selections.html for a list of the songs they can play.

PLEASE RSVP on or before August 31st, by scrolling down and clicking on the dark blue RSVP button below and fill in the form. Indicate how many will attend (yourself, spouse, partners, friends, kids, etc.). I need a solid head count by August 31st for the caterer to plan for the buffet.

Please no gifts for the host! Instead; I only ask you to consider donating to one of the local charities, who will be on hand.

(IMPORTANT NOTE: Although a previous post mentioned a pot luck dinner, that is no longer the case. We will have plenty of food, including some vegan and gluten free options. Of course, you may bring food for yourself for any personal dietary requirements.)

17 October 2024, Additional Note
17 October @ 3:45 PM - As I prepare to set up for this event, I want to say that there are still seats available, so if you've been hesitant, please RSVP at the above link; you're welcome to attend.
Also, this event does *not* show up on the Maynard Library's calendar of events because only Library sponsored events are listed there.  For anyone who just reserves a room, as I did, nothing is listed - we who organize other events there must do our own publicity elsewhere.  I usually post events with Discover Maynard.  They maintain an excellent calendar there:  https://discovermaynard.com/calendar/

1 August 2024
Workshop: "Why We Blame, and How to Let It Go" (new title).  Presented at a private retreat.
Stay tuned for more dates and locations for this workshop, coming Fall 2024

16 June 2024
Workshop: "Understanding Blame and Shame (and how to work through them)."
(NOTE: This workshop was not presented at this time and location due to lack of participants registering.  It was Father's Day, alas.)
This will take place at the Common Street Spiritual Center at 13 Common Street, in Natick, Massachusetts on Sunday afternoon, June 16, 2024, from 3 to 5 PM. For details about the workshop, you can read a description on the Workshop page, here on this web site.
This workshop is free of charge, but space is limited.  • Please RSVP HERE (https://tinyurl.com/MRLink01), and use the + or - buttons in the box at the right of the main title to specify the number of people going (including yourself), then click on the red "Reserve a Spot" button.

The Common Street Spiritual Center is located in the building of a former church.  The Center is accessible and welcome to all.  It is adjacent to route 27, in downtown Natick.  There is parking on local streets and limited parking in the small lot behind the building, off School Street Extension.  The Zoom Room is on the 3rd floor in the wing at the back of the building.  Apple Maps may take you to the parking lot of the business next door, but it's best not to park there.
Note:  Although it's known as the Zoom Room, the workshop is in-person only and not available online at this time.

March 2020
The COVID-19 pandemic has just started.  I suspend all events for the time being, as the world is just starting to grapple with this calamity.

1 November 2019
Poetry reading sponsored by the "Workshop for Publishing Poets."  I'll be one of the two featured readers for the first time!  The event starts at 7:00 PM promptly at the West Suburban YMCA in Newton Massachusetts.  We're followed by an open mic segment where others in attendance are welcome to read one poem each, followed by an informal meet & greet session before wrapping up around 8:30 or so.

Arlington Town Day - I have a booth to promote both my books ["a man wearing a dress" and "Still Live (without the vase)," my new book of photographs, now in pre-publication] at the street fair portion of the weekend, on Massachusetts Avenue, from 9 AM until 3 PM.
I have just moved to Maynard, Massachusetts, on September 5th, but will return to participate in Town Day in Arlington, the town where I have lived since 1975.

23 March 2019
I'm leading my workshop "Understanding Blame and Shame and how to work through them" at the Keystone Conference in Harrisburg, PA.  I'm scheduled for the 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM time slot.  This will be the second time I've lead this workshop, after a very successful session at the First Event conference here in Massachusetts, back on February 2nd!
2 February 2019
I'm leading my new workshop for the first time!  It's called "Understanding Blame and Shame and how to work through them" for LGBTQIA+ youth and their allies. It takes place at "First Event," a conference & trade show being held at the Best Western Royal Plaza Hotel & Conference Center in Marlborough, Massachusetts. It's on Saturday Feb. 2nd, at 3:30 PM. You must register to attend, so please go to the First Event web site well in advance to do that. I hope to see you there!
19 January 2019
Boston Women's March 2019, at Boston Common, 10 AM to 2 PM.  I attended and took photos, interviewed marchers, and recorded video at the event.  You can see all that on a special page on my Open Eyes Video web site.
9 June 2018
I'll be marching in the Boston Pride parade Saturday.  I'll be with the contingent from the Human Awareness Institute this year, offering free hugs to those along the parade route.  And yes, I'll be wearing a dress.  Look for a group with T-shirts that say "Free Hugs."  For more information, see http://www.bostonpride.org/parade/ for information about the parade, hai.org for information about the Human Awareness Institute, my blog post here, and check local news media for coverage of the event.

Celebration at The Garment District in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Thursday evening, from 6 to 9 PM, to mark their 32 years in business.  They are holding a 32% off store wide sale at this event. This event is free and is open to the public.
This is
the store I mention in my book, a man wearing a dress, where I first gave myself permission to "... buy anything I wanted to from both sides of the aisle," and start the exploration my gender identity.  I promise to be there in something dazzling!
Note:  I am not hosting this event, however, I hope to have copies of my book available for sale in the store.  Stay tuned!

(I did not attend this event, as I was at First Event, described below)

1 - 3 February 2018
First Event, sponsored by TCNE (Tiffany Club of New England), at the Best Western Royal Plaza Hotel & Conference Center, 181 Boston Post Road W, Marlboro, MA.  I will have a table in the vendor area with copies of my book for purchase & signing.
This is a major, week long event, which actually runs from 30 January through 4 February (The vendor area where I'll be set up runs from 1 - 3 Feb.). According to their web site (click link above for more information), the event is designed to "welcome all gender variant and questioning persons, their families, allies, and professionals to celebrate, ... teach and learn from each other at one of the oldest and largest transgender conferences in the world."
This event is open to the public but there is an admission charge to attend.
Note: Apple Maps will misdirect you unless you put "181 Boston Post Rd W" into the search.(don't spell out the word "West"). It's just to the west of Route 495. If it comes up "Post Rd E" then you'll never find it, alas. I wish Apple would fix this, but alas, my requests have not been heeded.
26 January 2018
Professional Training: Sexuality, Intimacy and Diverse Gender in Therapy - in Watertown, Mass., 9:30 AM - 4:30 PM.
Attendance at this event is intended for professional therapists, coaches, and counselors, and is by advanced reservation only!  You must apply at the Mastering a New Frontier web site, pay the required fee, and be approved by the organizers.  There is more information at the Meetup Page for this event.
This is not my event, so I will be attending but I do not expect to be reading from or signing copies of my book (unless requested to do so).
20 January 2018
I visit the Sudbury Valley School in Framingham, Mass. during their Saturday open house, from 1 to 4 PM.  They are located at 2 Winch Street, Framingham, MA 01701 508-877-3030.  You can see the event page on their web site for more details and directions.  This event is free and open to the public.
This school was started in 1968, so this is their 50th year!  What they began has become a model for over 60 other schools, so I highly recommend a visit, especially if you're not familiar with their concept. There is more information at the Wikipedia Article about this type of school.

This was not my event, so I didn't be read, sell, or sign books.  I'll just visited during their open house.  However, I gave them a free copy of my book while there.  See my "Product Blog" for details!
16 January 2018
Porter Square Books: Tuesday, 16 January 2018 at 7:00 PM. This is my night to present my book!  I'll be reading excerpts, taking questions & signing copies.  Porter Square Books is a well known independent bookstore in Cambridge and has frequent author presentations.
This event is free and open to the public. You do not need a ticket, but I'd love it if you would go to my Contact Us page and send me a message there to let me know if you plan to come. That will help in planning for the event. I hope to see you there!
